OUR STORY

TheCheckmateClub.com was founded by Roshini Poorna Prakash, whose journey in chess is both inspiring and remarkable.

 

Our founder, Roshini is a World Recognized FIDE Instructor (This license is given to trainers who have the ability and knowledge to improve a student’s foundation and successfully compete in national, regional and international cadet and youth championships. Typically, training players rated from 1701 to 2200), National gold medalist and a standout player at the Asian Junior Championships in 2008. She studied alongside numerous Grandmasters during her school years, developing lifelong friendships with top players in the chess world. This unique background gives The Checkmate Club unparalleled insights into what it takes to reach the highest levels of chess, and we're here to share that expertise with you.

Roshini's chess journey is filled with memorable experiences and emotional bonds. 

Recognizing her talent, her school awarded her a free education scholarship for four years, underscoring her potential and dedication to the game.

 

Her achievements have been recognized by prestigious figures like IAS officers, Viswanathan Anand, and Virender Sehwag. She has been awarded with garlands, featured in numerous newspapers, and received many invites to events and parties such as Viswanathan Anand''s birthday held at  Taj Coramandal along with the India's top cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and many more.

 

Driven by her passion for chess and a desire to share its intellectual richness, Roshini founded TheCheckmateClub.com. Her vision was to provide high-quality, personalized chess coaching and mentoring to students around the world. Over the years, TheCheckmateClub.com has flourished into a vibrant community, with students from the US, UK, Dubai, Australia, Canada, and India.

National GOLD MEDALIST U19, 2011.

Roshini wins a National Gold Medal in Under 19, 2011, India - Awarded by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar.

This momentous event, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Margao) under the auspices of the Government of India, represents the pinnacle of dedication and competitive spirit, marking the start of an inspiring journey in the world of chess. Awarded the prestigious Form IV Certified Player title, further solidifying recognition at the highest levels of competition.

Asian junior championship,
2008 & 2009.

Represented India in the prestigious Asian Junior and Junior Girls Chess Championships in 2008 and 2009. Competing at this elite level was a testament to skill, determination, and passion for chess, showcasing the ability to perform on an international stage against the best young talents from across Asia.

X2 times State level champion, 2008 & 2009.

Won the Women’s State Level Championship twice in 2008 and 2009, a humbling achievement that reflected dedication and love for the game. These victories were important milestones in her chess journey, encouraging to continue improving and pursue opportunities on larger stages

X12 times district champion, 2007, 2008, 2009,2010,2011.

Won the District Championship 12 times between 2007 and 2011, a journey marked by dedication and a love for chess. These victories were valuable learning experiences that helped shape Roshini's growth as a player.
