our story
TheCheckmateClub.com was founded by Roshini Poorna Prakash, a World Recognized FIDE Certified Instructor licensed to coach players rated between 1701 and 2200.
A National Gold Medalist and a standout performer at the Asian Junior Championships in 2008, Roshini’s chess journey took a defining turn when she was personally invited by the renowned Velammal School to join their ranks. Recognizing her exceptional talent, the school offered her a four-year full scholarship, just as they did for other prodigies like Vaishali Rameshbabu and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu.
At Velammal — a school known for nurturing India’s top Grandmasters — Roshini trained alongside many of the country’s brightest chess talents, developing lifelong friendships and gaining deep insights into what it takes to excel at the highest levels of the game.
Her achievements have been celebrated by IAS officers, Viswanathan Anand, and Virender Sehwag. Roshini has been honored with garlands, featured in leading newspapers and invited to prestigious events.
Driven by her passion for chess and a desire to share its intellectual beauty, Roshini founded TheCheckmateClub.com with a vision to offer high-quality, personalized chess coaching and mentorship to students worldwide.
Today, the club has grown into a thriving international community, with students from the US, Dubai, Australia, Canada, and India.
National GOLD MEDALIST U19, 2011 (sgfi)
Roshini wins a National Gold Medal in Under 19, 2011, India - Awarded by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar.
This momentous event, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Margao) under the auspices of the Government of India. Awarded the prestigious Form IV Certified Player title, further solidifying recognition at the highest levels of competition.
Asian junior championship,
2008 & 2009.
Represented India in the prestigious Asian Junior and Junior Girls Chess Championships in 2008 and 2009. Competing at this elite level was a testament to skill, determination, and passion for chess, showcasing the ability to perform on an international stage against the best young talents from across Asia.
